The crickets of the fractured morning
In a place we once knew
With the people we love
My oldest say,
“Mama he doesn’t want you to be smarter that him”
But why? Aren’t we in the land of free?
I’m forty embarrassed mispronouncing words
Is learning English such a bad thing?
We are the angry and the desperate
With a second generation that doesn’t understand
my Spanish any more
The generation that doesn’t want home food and only thing of McDonalds
The generation that is embarrassed of their own roots
but what happen? What happen to the place I once knew?
What happen to the place I once call home?
